EMC TRAINING FOUNDATION

EMC Test House Directory logo

WELCOME to the EMC Training Foundation

The worldwide EMC Training course scene is very complex. Given that EMC Training courses can be given to the public or in private; on or off-line, tailored or in-house, basic or advanced, and over a broad range of topics; also given that times change around the world, venues change and prices vary enormously, it is simply impossible for a single website to list all relevant courses.

We are therefore publishing a list of carefully Selected Training Courses, followed by a section dedicated to Private In-House Training Courses. The penultimate section is a list of Training Course Providers, with finally a section on Courses of Interest

If you have an interest in EMC and EMC training courses, then it is very likely that you will have an interest in Product Compliance in general. We have a closely related but seperate PRODUCT COMPLIANCE TRAINING FOUNDATION, which lists a range of Product Compliance courses.

Selected Training Courses

As well as selecting the courses below for both their relevance and their quality; we have chosen them because they are public/open-enrolment courses that are repeated on a regular basis, unless stated otherwise.

CE and UKCA Marking Essentials

All companies that sell products on the European market must be able to demonstrate that the products meet applicable EU requirements. CE marking is the manufacturer’s declaration to the authorities that the product meets all the requirements placed on it by the relevant Directives. The consequence of not having full control of their CE marking can be costly, especially if there is an incident with the product or if the product fails a market surveillance by the responsible authority.
A distinct but similar set of requirements now exists for the GB market under the new UKCA marking.
This EMC training course seeks to provide you with the information and skills to understand CE Marking and UKCA marking Essentials and enable you to comply with a range of Directives and Regulations, along with covering other product legislation. It is aimed at companies who manufacture, import or distribute products for sale or use within the European Economic Area

Electronic Product Design for EMC

“The obvious passion that James has for the subject of EMC came across strongly in the training. He presented ways of looking at situations that help you understand what’s going on without getting bogged down in too much theory…along with the excellent demonstrations this really brought what can be a dry subject to life. I definitely left the training with a much better understanding of the pitfalls that await a product design that has been undertaken with little consideration of the potential EMC issues.”

Fundamentals of EMC
– Apparatus and system design for EMC

The course gives you as a participant knowledge of how to design electrical and electronic systems to achieve the best possible EMC characteristics. We go through what sources can interfere with electronics and how the interference can occur. Based on this, we look at various measures for how to protect yourself from these sources of interference and achieve good EMC.
The course contains a review of electromagnetic concepts and basic principles as well as unwanted properties of components. The action principles and work methodology in the course are based on the zoning principle.
In the course, we mix theory with practical examples and laboratories. On selected occasions, we ask small thought-provoking questions in a digital platform so that you can reflect on the material.

EMI Analysis at Board Level with Oscilloscopes (ROH103)

Electronic modules often contain a multitude of functional units in tight space. Interference between the units has to be minimized during the design phase. The detection of EMI should start as early as possible, in order to avoid unpleasant surprises during conformance test later on. Vice versa, the wireless communication signals present in the environment can impair the correct operation of the circuitry. This course covers typical EMI topics, and the use of oscilloscopes for the detection of disturbances. The delimitation against classical RF equipment like spectrum analyzer, or measurement receiver, is discussed as well.

Private/In-house/Bespoke Courses

We appreciate that this type of course is normally the result of an in-depth discussion and negotiation with the host. We also understand that each course, while typically made up from a number of standard modules, is essentially unique.
Having said that, there is no reason why a public course syllabus cannot be presented to a private group.
We are currently working on the best way to present our capability, which we hope to publish shortly.
In the meantime, if you have a requirement for an In-house Product Compliance or EMC course please do not hesitate to contact us on +44 (0) 7745 841 654.
Thank you

Courses of Interest

Whilst we want the focus of this site to remain on EMC, it would be remit of us not to include training courses which we thought were worth bringing to the attention of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

To that end we have selected a number of training courses, which you can view here, from the BSI Training Academy.
